Hi, I’m Brett, founder of Shut Ball. I live in Buffalo, New York where tailgating and summer parties are what we are known for. Along with these came backyard games, which influenced me to come up with my own.
Growing up with a love for basketball, I realized there wasn’t a game out there directed towards this sport. After going through many prototypes of boards and designs of beanballs, I finally reached that perfect sweet spot with both of them that really gives you a feel of being out on the court and throwing that jump shot or lining up behind the foul line for a foul shot.
Since then, my team and I have started a company, done tons of research, built and tested countless prototypes, filed for patents, and finalized with manufacturing partners. Nothing brings the thrill of a clutch free throw or a game winning 3 point shot to the backyard, beach, bar or tailgate like Shut Ball.
Shut Ball delivers that “swish”, nothing but net feeling when competing with your friends. Shut Ball is coming soon to a backyard, bar, tailgate & beach near you.

Shut Ball is a patented basketball-themed lawn game we put together by taking the key components of basketball and breaking them down for the backyard. The boards and balls are designed with the same (smaller) ratios of an official basketball and basketball rim, to really give you the feeling of being out on the court. Our basketballs are specially designed and weighted beanballs that give you a great feel for backyard playing.
INSTRUCTIONS
> PLACE BOARDS 8′ APART FROM BOTH FRONTS.
> PLAY STANDING BEHIND THE BOARD WHEN TAKING SHOTS (ARMS CAN CROSS THE BOARD).
> WHEN A SHOT IS MADE REMOVE THE BALL AND CLOSE DOORS.
> AFTER THE BALL MAKES GROUND CONTACT THE BALL IS “DEAD”.

OBJECTIVE
CLOSE OUT YOUR OPPONENT’s BOARD
- If playing with two players – both players get to take a shot.
- This game is played with your opponent standing at the opposite end.
- After one bounce on the board, the ball can be blocked.
- Redemption shots are allowed (shoot until you miss

- For double overtime, both teams first and second closers are opened.
- For third overtime, both teams first, second and third closers are opened.
- For fourth overtime, both teams full boards are reopened.
PLAYED WITH 4 BOARDS
OBJECTIVE
CLOSE OUT BOTH BOARDS AS FAST AS YOU CAN
- Your partner is now standing at the board across from you with your opponents next to you.
- If one person closes out a board first, you must now throw the ball continuously back to them until they close out the board as well.
- There is no order that a team has to follow to shoot the ball. You can strategize your shots and repeatedly throw the ball back to your partner until they make one in or all of them in.
- Whichever team successfully closes out both boards first WINS!!
